Well...after a rainy June, we now are beginning a dry July. My farmer JUST got the field planted on June 27. He planted soybeans again because he ran out of time for corn. We had so much rain in June that the field had been too wet to plant. Now that the seeds are in the ground, we need a nice gentle rain to make them come to life. Because of all that rain, I also have lots of tall weeds that I've been pulling and more that will get it soon. This year, I've decided to clear out some of the gardens here. They had all been planted so densely, that now it's to jungly. I completely cleared the area beside the kitchen...about 10 Rose of Sharons and Vibernums...all about 8 ft tall. Now they are gone, and we planted grass there. This little lawn will connect to the other little lawn at the bottom of the south porch steps. We also cut down some small trees beside the driveway leaving 4 maples that will now grow healthily. There is more to clear out and I'll update on that as it happens.

What's happening in the gardens...the Stella d'Oro lilies and some of the other day lilies are blooming, plus Purple Cone Flower, Clematis, and Hydrangea. For some reason, the Wisteria bloomed little blooms last week. Last year, it bloomed huge blooms in early May. Our 2 tomato plants are very healthy and will produce more than enough for us and our guests. Pretty soon we'll be seeing the zillions of Black-Eyed-Susans.

Katy, our new 2-year-old Schnauzer / Yorkshire Terrier mix is doing so well. She got a big haircut a few weeks ago and was hardly recognizable. She had been picking up so many burrs in all those curls that we decided to get the summer cut. She's become quite the greeter of our guests...she dances and howls, especially for the men!

I'm thankful for my June business. My favorite business traveler continues to be here every other week, plus we added another traveling business guy and 2 anniversary couples. The universe always provides!

Reminders...Indiana Live Casino in Shelbyville is open. We are only 20 minutes away. It could be a fun way to get away!

It's always nice to treat your lover to a romantic overnight. Special extras can be added, and there are very romantic restaurants within 30 minutes of The Garden Retreat.

If you have family or friends coming in for summer visits, treat them to a stay at The Garden Retreat. Those visits go so much better when everyone has just a little bit of privacy!

Allstate 400 at the Brickyard...July 26...we are only 30 minutes away from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Unfortunately, we are already sold out for the Red Bull Indianapolis GP on August 30...sorry.

Travelers with trailers...if you are driving a small moving truck or pulling a trailer, this may be a great stop-over point for you. There is plenty of room to safely park behind the house, and not worry about your belongings being disturbed.

Motorcyclists...we have space in the barn to store your motorcycle overnight. There also is water available to clean up your bike.
