Late April...The gardens are coming alive...almost at a rate that I find hard to keep up with! The daffodils and narcissus are always the first to bloom in mass. Luckily, I have several varieties, so they bloom in waves. The weeping cherry is beautful right now, and will fade in the next few days. The peonies are up and I'll expect to see them bloom for Memorial Day. I continue to move things around and do a lot of pruning to make things more manageable and mowable. I have lots of plants for sale for those of you adding to your gardens this year. $5 per plant for a very large root ball...day lilies, peonies, iris, siberian iris. Just call and we'll arrange a time for you to come and pick them up. I'll do the digging. The big job in a week or so will be mulching. I'll hire some help this year and will be mulching about 3 times the space that I've done in the past. Again, the goal is manageability!!

Big news for my guests who have been here before! Monte and I are engaged. He asked me to marry him on March 22, the anniversary of our meeting. We are very happy and excited to move on into married life later this year.

The Meeting Cottage is available now for groups to rent for meetings or other gatherings. It can accomodate about 25 people. Call for details for your group.

Check out the specials on the Rooms & Rates page. Summer is a great time to take a quiet get-away.

Reminders...Although Valentine's Day is over, it's always nice to treat your lover to a romantic overnight. Special extras can be added, and there are very romantic restaurants within 30 minutes of The Garden Retreat.
If you have family or friends coming in for the summer visits, treat them to a stay at The Garden Retreat. Those visits go so much better when everyone has just a little bit of privacy!

It's not too early to book for all the races at the Speedway this summer...plus all the other things going on in central Indiana...Jazz Fest, Indianapolis Indians games, July 4 Fireworks, etc., Indiana State Fair. Sorry...the 500 is booked!

Fun idea...we had two couples who are life-long friends meet here in October for their semi-annual three-day visit. One couple was from Ohio and the other from Chicago. They visited the Museum of Art, dined at a couple of our good restaurants, took an outing to Anderson Orchard, and played bridge the rest of the time. They loved having the house to themselves and seemed to have a delightful reunion.

Gift idea...for birthdays or anniversaries, to the person or couple who have everything, give gift certificates to The Garden Retreat.
